Artist Avadhoot Gupte’s a familiar name in the Marathi household all thanks to his vivacious presence as a judge on the famous Marathi singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma on Zee. The talented man is looked upon as one of the lead music composers and singers to have given Marathi music a rock twist and thus taken it to an altogether different level. This multi-faceted entertainer has now entered film direction and his debut film itself has raised tremendous curiosity considering the sensitive topic he has dealt with. Renuka Vyavahare chatted up Avadhoot Gupte who had the guts to address the issue of MNS-Shiv Sena unification through his debut film ‘Zenda’...
Zenda has been making news for it showcases MNS-Shiv Sena unification onscreen!
Issue of MNS-Shiv Sena merger has ‘also’ been addressed in Zenda. The film is not only about it. Zenda is more about the life of a typical political party worker who is passionate about his leader and party. He is your everyday Marathi youth who joins a political party, is ambitious, hard working, mischievous and even corrupt. During political campaigning, the leaders get all the attention and one is left wondering what goes into the lives of the people who stand behind and shout loudly for their leaders. The story of Zenda is through the eyes of these young party workers who do think that the unification of Shiv Sena and MNS will help the common Marathi man. The film however doesn’t take any pro-anti stance on any party.
How did the idea of this film originate?
I’ve been creatively associated with Shiv Sena since 2004, where I have helped them in designing their songs, slogans for campaigns. I am not a part of the party though. I get paid as a creative person for what I do. During my working with Sena in the grass root level, I met these party workers who were so passionate about their job and they inspired me to make a film on this topic.
