Pictures of Lady Gaga from her 2004 high school yearbook surfaced on the internet today and - surprise, surprise- she looks exceedingly normal in them. She's also quite pretty - something that tends to be overshadowed by her outrageous persona these days.
Apparently Lady Gaga has always been very outgoing and flamboyant but admits to feeling the need to tone it down a bit while she was attending Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in New York City. People making fun of her outlandish ways made her feel self-conscious.
She freed herself from the shackles of high school soon enough though to pursue her singing career. According to Wikipedia, for a short time she became a brunette, took drugs and performed in a burlesque show, something that greatly upset her father. (I wonder why?) Happily for her fans, after performing for a while at bars around NYC, Lady Gaga got the attention of some record labels and voila, here she is...a major part of the pop culture of 2009.
How do you feel about Lady Gaga? Me, I'm not so impressed. She gets a lot of comparisons to Queen ad David Bowie but I'm a big fan of both (especially of Bowie) and I just don't hear it. To me, she bears a lot more likeness to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, the Pussycat Dolls and their ilk. I guess I'd be more into her stage presence if she had something new to offer musically.
Of course, I may also just be biased against her because I have an annoying coworker who sing her songs all the time.
