“A Hazy Shade of Winter” is a song written by Paul Simon and it is recorded by Simon & Garfunkel in 1966 for their 1968 album, Bookends. It pointed at number 13 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 songs, after the album “Mrs. Robinson making it was the second trendiest song,” which earlier achieve No. 1.
The lyrics remind the road of the seasons, but hearting on the shadow of winter. The chorus of the song repeats:
But look around,
Leaves are brown now
And the sky
Is a hazy shade of winter?
Look around,
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground.
A cover of “A Hazy Shade of Winter” was presented by The Bangles for the soundtrack to the 1987 film Less Than Zero. The Bangles version (titled simply “Hazy Shade of Winter“) went over the fame of the original, getting number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs. Appropriate demands from their record label, The Bangles removed the verse from the unique song that contained the line “drinking my vodka and lime.” This version was normally used as cushion music for late night radio talk show Coast to Coast AM hosted by Art Bell in the mid to late 1990.
The Socals get assigned "Hazy Shade of Winter." The girls sound a little off-kilter at first, but they get it back eventually. Ben says it was ambitious, but he thinks they lost the song a little in the arrangement. Shawn says they're taking chances and letting their hair down. He thinks they lost their rhythm for a bit, but it was entertaining. Nicole liked the energy they started with and when the broke it down. She thinks they did give it everything they have.
