Another ceasefire violation by Pakistan | Pakistani troops opened fire at Kanachak sub-sector of Jammu district


JAMMU: In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops opened fire at Kanachak sub-sector of Jammu district and the BSF retaliated leading to a heavy exchange of fire between the two sides.

The ceasefire violation came as the country celebrated Republic Day.

The BSF also foiled infiltration bids by militants in the area.

The cross border firing started around 0200 hours even as a group of militants entered the Ulfa Machail border outpost along the International Border and were challenged by a BSF patrolling party, a senior BSF officer said.

The firing between forces from across the border and BSF continued till 0500 hours, he said.

The firing again erupted after a break and was continuing intermittently when reports last came in from the area, he said.

Another exchange of fire took place at Beliazmah border out post along the IB in the same sector and the exchange of fire continued for nearly one-and-half hours early this morning.

DGP, Jammu and Kashmir, Kuldeep Khuda said, "There was firing at about 0200 hours in the morning and it continued for few hours. Initially, the intensity was quite huge and later on it died down a bit. We are watching the situation."

Searches are on as the area which is engulfed by thick fog.
