The conservative group Citizens United previewed a new documentary film for the Tea Party Convention in Nashville a few weeks ago called Generation Zero. This documentary seeks to explain our current national mess by pointing the finger squarely at the way society and culture has been shaped by the narcissistic Boom Generation.
This is what I gather from what I’ve read: in seeking to prevent their children from suffering the way they did, the WWII Generation pampered their kids like no other… and the kids took advantage! Now the bill is coming due and future generations (Generation “Zero”) will have to flip that bill and face the consequences of their grandparent’s self-centered follies.
OK, I’ll give it a shot, but when hearing that Newt, Krauthammer, Dick Morris, Lou Dobbs, Larry Kudlow, Amity Shlaes, and others contributed to it, that the director Stephen K. Bannon was the same who was involved with In the Face of Evil: Ronald Reagan’s War in Word and Deed, and that a major contributor to the film’s underlying concept was Neil Howe of Fourth Turning fame, it all made me quite excited to want to see this documentary when it hits theaters in March. Here is the Fox Business Channel’s interview with those behind this movie:
The early buzz is that it’s very Tea Party activist-friendly because it helps put into perspective the decades of the misuse of our capitalist system by the government and their private sector cohorts into a crony kind of capitalism (which isn’t truly capitalistic to begin with). In the end it may not be any good (I’m yet to see an wonkish economic-based documentary that’s wowed me!), but I like the people involved with it so when I get a chance, I’ll see it and review it for AOR’s audience.
