Back for season 3 of her Bravo reality show, 'Millionaire Matchmaker,' Patti Stanger promises 12 action-packed episodes featuring appearances by Jason "Gummi Bear" Davis, season 2 scourge Shauna Raisch and the increased inclusion of gay and lesbian clients.
Oh yeah, and Stanger just got engaged herself and recently published a book, 'Become Your Own Matchmaker.'
With the show set to start its new season tonight at 10PM ET, we caught up with outspoken matchmaker.
Your matchmaking service has offices in not only L.A., but New York, Miami, London and Canada, too. Any thoughts to moving the show out of Los Angeles at any point?
Yes, definitely. Fifty percent of our database is flakes -- actresses and models who don't show up. That's what you get in L.A. I think in New York, Chicago and Miami, we'd get a whole different pool of people and the show would be quite different.
We have. Bravo didn't want to spend the money this season. But down the road, we might mix things up and take the show on the road -- maybe do six episodes in one city, and six episodes in another. Kind of like 'Extreme Makeover.'
You brought Shauna back, but didn't she cause friction last season?
Yes, but she has a large fan base. The viewers wanted her back.
What's the most challenging aspect of doing this show?
In my business, when I try to match someone, I have 14 months. On the show, I have 24 hours. There's only so much I can do in that limited amount of time.
Casting can't be easy either, right?
We don't go out and cast people. People come to us organically, and we don't always get the people we want. And they're not always in tune with our philosophies. Especially in the gay community, they want to have sex first and get to know each other second. Gays like to move way faster than the straight community. But you have to know somebody before you sleep with them. It's like a job interview -- you want to get all their qualifications and references first.
So, you're going to have more gay and lesbian clients on the show?
Yes, it's a new venture for me. Maybe I should call Ellen on that one and ask her for help. I was on her show once, and maybe she could help me because she's an expert. She's always got a hotty-fertotty on her shoulder. She's never alone for more than five minutes.
