Nokia's recently launched touchscreen phone, the 5230, has finally made it to India with a company officially launching the device in the country. While the existence of the phone was known since the time of Nokia World held a few months ago, it is now that the phone has made its Indian debut.
As mentioned in our "first look" back in August, the 5230 is nothing but a stripped down 5800 XpressMusic minus the Wi-Fi and the 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, which has been replaced with a 2 megapixel camera. The phone is virtually identical otherwise and has the same look and feel of its older brother, with the exception of a white body and a backside with different color panels.
On the inside, the 5230 runs the same Symbian S60 5th Edition, however, a notable addition is the presence of flip scrolling. The UI also supports kinetic scrolling now. So now, you can press and slide on the screen and the lists will continue to scroll down, eventually slowing down and coming to a halt.
Back then, the phone was told to be priced around the Rs. 10,000 mark which, we felt, was good value for money. However, Nokia made it slightly better and has now announced the price to be somewhere near the Rs. 9,000 mark - which makes the deal even better.
