Tomorrow, December 23, Nike will release their newest sneaker in the "Air Jordan" series: Air Jordan 11 (Air Jordan XI) Retro. They are known as "Space Jam" Jordans because he wore a similarly styled shoe in the movie Space Jam. Nike had originally planned for a Christmas Eve release, but announced in a 12/7 press release that they were able to move it up a day.
I particularly love the line "a special gift from Jordan to sneaker fans everywhere," in reference to the forthcoming $175 sneaker. How much would you guess this shoe costs to manufacture and ship?
There doesn't appear to be any actual reference to the movie or any Looney Tunes characters. I'm not clear on whether "Space Jam" is an official name for the shoe or if it's an invention of the press. Nike's press releases make no mention of the term.
As if you didn’t already know, the Air Jordan 11 Retro ‘Space Jam’ has just officially been released nationwide. Many of us feel as if the XI Space Jams are almost owed to us from Jordan Brand, after requesting a retro of them for years on end. The sneakers originally released in 2000 and instantly picked up the Space Jam nickname when Michael Jordan appeared in the Space Jam movie with the sneakers. Many believe the sneakers were actually inspired by the movie, but the movie was actually released after the sneakers were. Neither here nor there though, however you believe it to be, these will forever been known as the Space Jams.
Retail price for the Space Jam Jordans will set you back $175, $50 more then the $125 price tag they carried in 2000. Needless to say if you plan on getting a pair of these you better do it with the quickness. Don’t doubt it, just do it. Don’t listen to people talk about how the icey soles will get yellow. We have a little something called Seaglow which can how those yellow soles looking oh so ever icey once again.
