Those looking for Zhu Zhu Pets on Cyber Monday 2009 will have to spend a few more dollars to get the most sought after toy for this year. Many stores are reporting the pet hamster out of stock but shoppers did find the furry pets on sites like Amazon.

Just like years past with Cabbage Patch kids and Tickle Me Elmo dolls, the Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are the rage this year. Normal prices for the toy is usually about $8 but prices are skyrocketing in the resale market due to the huge demand.

A quick search of Amazon.com did find some of these toys available but at prices up to 10x more than normal. Several stores like Toys R Us did have them in limited quantity on Black Friday.

As the holiday shopping season gets closer, the demand is sure to grow but no word from manufacturers as to the availability increasing.

Parents hoping to find a popular Zhu Zhu Pet for their child this Christmas may be disappointed this Cyber Monday; online retailers are still showing “out of stock” statuses for each of the cute little motorized hamsters. The toys have been available only intermittently for a month, as demand has far exceeded supply. Many have resorted to buying Zhu Zhu pets and other hot items (such as the Mindflex biofeedback game, Bakugan collectible card game, and dolls like Barbie Fashionistas and Moxie Girls) on eBay from resellers who saw the potential for gain.

There is one piece good news for those on the quest for the holy Zhu Zhus but unwilling to pay eBay markups - as much as $60 for a toy listing at $10 - national retailer Toys R Us plans to stock the toy heavily in the month of December. Toys R Us stores generally get delivery early in the morning; store personnel will not be able to tell you if Zhu Zhu pets will be in any particular day’s delivery, but can tell you on what days their stores receive new stock. Set the alarm clock and put the coffeemaker on auto-brew; those December mornings are cold.

Zhu Zhu pets are the hottest toy this year and finding them is reminiscent of the Tickle Me Elmo search many parents did a few years ago. Retailers have been stocking them slowly, likely because Zhu Zhu Pets may not be popular a month from now and they will end up with an overstock of these battery operated hamsters. For now, there are a few places, like Toys R Us, that will continue to stock them. Cyber Monday might not be your best bet, however.

Cyber Monday is in full swing and a quick check of the major online Zhu Zhu Pet retailers such as KMart, Walmart, Toys R Us, Target and eToys came up with "out of stock" on every hamster including Num Nums, Chunk, Mr. Squiggles and Pip Squeak. Of course, you are only familiar with those names if you know a child who really wants on of these squeaking, clucking, mooing hamsters that had parents ripping down store displays to get one on Black Friday.

Zhu Zhu pets are in high demand as are a few other hard to find toys like the Mindflex Mind Reading Helmet, Nerf and Strike Darts,Bakugan Battle Packs, Barbie Fashionistas and the Moxie Girls. However, Zhu Zhu pets are undoubtedly the hardest to find.

Best Bet for Finding Zhu Zhu Pets
Toys R Us is still your best bet for finding Zhu Zhu pets and all of the accessories that go with them. They may not have them on the shelves today but they get shipments of toys almost every morning ... early ... so if you really have to have a fake hamster, you may want to scope out Toy R Us with your early morning coffee.

A call to three local Toys R Us did not give us exact dates they would get inventory as the stores do not know which days certain toys will arrive. One store receives deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Another receives toy shipments on Tuesday and Friday. A call to your local store will at least let you know which morning you need to be a Zhu Zhu Pets stalker at your nearby Toys R Us.
Toys R Us stated just days ago that they will be stocking thousands of Zhu Zhu pets in December, so you may luck out.

Walmart may be stocking them a few times a week as well, but three local Walmarts in the New England area had empty shelves even first thing on Black Friday. Every region is different so it's wise to check.
