Autistic Kid with Perfect NCAA Basket Ball Bracket 2010 at Chicago's Alex Hermann

Autistic Kid Picks Perfect Bracket: Chicago’s Alex Hermann - 2010 Sweet 16! NCAA Perfect Bracket 2010!

A 17-year old boy from Chicago, Illinois, has been the only person known to come forward with a 2010 NCAA perfect bracket! His name is Alex Hermann, and he claims the secret to his success is he likes numbers and is good at math.

Hermann says he pays real close attention to the games and last season’s history, but was this perhaps a stroke of luck? I pay attention too, and that’s why I chose Kansas! But I was wrong, like most of you, and Alex has prevailed thus far.

To clarify, Alex Hermann correctly picked Cornell, Northern Iowa, Washington, and St. Mary’s (CA) to be right where they are. Unreal. So now the big question is, who did he pick to go all the way? His favorite of course, Purdue (where brother Andrew Hermann went to college).

Hermann has predicted they’ll make it all the way to the NCAA Championship 2010, and take down Kansas State. If this notion seems a little crazy, I wouldn’t be so quick to judge. Maybe next year, along with Dick Vitale’s picks, we’ll also get some insight from Alex!

Basketball Team of Butler University | Butler University stuns No. 1 seed Syracuse | The fifth-seeded Bulldogs knocked off top-seeded Syracuse

SALT LAKE CITY -- From its Indiana roots to its mid-major status to its home gym, Butler has had a difficult time shaking its "Hoosiers" image. But it took another step toward changing that on Thursday night.

The fifth-seeded Bulldogs knocked off top-seeded Syracuse, 63-59, in the West Region semifinals to reach the region final for the first time in school history.

"We can get rid of that, being a small school and surprising everybody," Butler senior Willie Veasley said. "Seeing how much success we've had in the NCAA tournament, I think that's fair to say it's a thing of the past."

The Bulldogs (31-4) take on the winner of Thursday night's meeting between No. 2 Kansas State and No. 6 Xavier Saturday. After another surprising result in this tournament with Syracuse falling, the clear favorite has been removed from the West Region and a Final Four spot is up for grabs.

Syracuse (30-5) looked out of sorts from the beginning. Butler scored 23 points on 18 turnovers by the Orange even though it shot an uncharacteristically poor 25 percent from three-point range.

The game was essentially decided when Veasley hit a three-pointer and made a tip-in on back-to-back possessions late in the game. The three-pointer bounced high off the rim.

Nomar Garciaparra | Nomar Garciaparra Stats | Nomar Garciaparra Steroids | Nomar | Mia Hamm

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Six years after he was traded away for the final pieces of Boston's World Series puzzle, Nomar Garciaparra finally got a friendly farewell from the Red Sox.

The rookie of the year, batting champion and All-Star whose trade began a bitter back-and-forth in Boston and, for Garciaparra, an inglorious slide into irrelevance, signed a ceremonial one-day contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday for the purpose of retiring in the uniform of his original team.

"From the first day I had the thrill of putting on a Red Sox uniform and playing in front of all the great fans at Fenway Park, I have felt at home in Boston," Garciaparra said in a statement that belied the ugliness that accompanied his departure. "While I had the privilege of playing with other legendary teams, I always saw myself retiring in a Red Sox uniform."

Garciaparra announced he's leaving baseball at 36 to become an ESPN analyst, ending a 14-year career in which he was a six-time All-Star and two-time batting champion. But the career that started with the 1997 AL Rookie of the Year award began to crumble when the Red Sox tried to acquire Alex Rodriguez after the 2003 season – a deal that probably would have forced them to trade Garciaparra.

Although the Rodriguez deal fell through, the talks upset Garciaparra, and an Achilles' tendon injury that kept him out until June the next season didn't help his mood. It also didn't help that the market for shortstops had plummeted since he rejected a four-year, $60 million offer from the Red Sox.

With the Red Sox struggling at midseason, general manager Theo Epstein traded Garciaparra for shortstop Orlando Cabrera and defensive first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Accusations of disloyalty flew, and Red Sox fans were stunned to lose their "No-mah."

But they soon overcame their grief: The Red Sox went 42-18 for the best finish in baseball, capping the season with their first World Series crown since 1918.

Garciaparra watched from afar.

"I felt like I was there," he said. "In Boston there's something greater than an individual player winning a World Series. When I was there I realized there's something bigger than us winning a World Series. It's winning a World Series for these people."

Epstein, who grew up in the Boston area, knew the risk he was taking by trading away the shortstop who had been the most popular player on the team.

"We've been fortunate over the years to maintain a relationship after the trade," Epstein said. "I think both of us understood at the time that it wasn't about Nomar and it wasn't about me. It was just baseball trades that happen. They're about what's going on with the team at the time and certain things that had to happen. But, it didn't change what Nomar meant to the Red Sox."

Terry Francona, who led the team to a World Series title in his rookie season as Red Sox manager, saw just the last few months of Garciaparra's time at Fenway Park.

"His last part in Boston was tough," Francona said. "He was kind of Boston-ed out. It had kind of wore on him for whatever reasons. Sometimes it's time to move on. That doesn't mean he's a bad person. I think the fact he's come back kind of shows that."

Garciaparra's teammates – the beneficiaries of his acrobatic defense and clutch hitting – found it appropriate that he retired in a Boston uniform.

"He was a Red Sox for a long time and I think he'll always be remembered as a Red Sox," said pitcher Tim Wakefield, who was Garciaparra's teammate for the shortstop's entire stay in Boston. "For the organization to sign him to a one-day deal and have him retire as a Red Sox is pretty special. I'm really happy for him. I wish he was still playing but sometimes our careers take different paths."

Garciaparra threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, with former Red Sox and Georgia Tech teammate Jason Varitek catching.

"Nomar will always hold a special place in Red Sox history and in the hearts of Red Sox Nation," owner John Henry said. "His accomplishments on the field and in the community place him among the greatest players to wear a Red Sox uniform. We are very appreciative that Nomar is ending his career where it began."

Garciaparra spent the past five seasons with the Cubs, Dodgers and A's. He had a .313 career average with 229 home runs and 936 RBIs.

Garciaparra was in the thick of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry but always earned the respect of his opponents in New York.

"I always enjoyed playing against Boston because of Nomar," Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter said. "I used to enjoy being mentioned with him."

Added Rodriguez: "I love Nomar. He's a great player and a friend."

Rodney Stuckey | Rodney Stuckey Collapse | Stuckey | Rodney Stuckey Seizure | Stuckey Seizure | Stuckey Pistons | Rodney Stuckey COLLAPSES: Pistons Forward Wheeled Off Court, Taken To Hospital During Game

CLEVELAND — Detroit's Rodney Stuckey was conscious and breathing on his own as he was taken to a hospital after collapsing on the Pistons' bench during a game Friday night.

The Pistons said Stuckey was taken to the Cleveland Clinic and his vital signs were stable, but was going for further testing and observation.

Stuckey was wheeled off the court on a stretcher during the third quarter after he collapsed into a trainer's arms on the bench during the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Stuckey walked off the floor for a timeout showing no signs of illness. After a few moments in a chair, though, Stuckey slumped over.

Medical personnel rushed over to the Pistons' bench with a stretcher. Play was halted for 12 minutes as the medical staff worked on Stuckey, placed an oxygen mask on his face and wheeled him into an ambulance.

Cleveland players huddled together with their heads bowed, while Pistons teammate Tayshaun Prince sat silent in his chair a few feet away as Stuckey was being treated.

NFL Combine Results 2010 | Combine Results | NFL Combine Results | NFL Combine Records | Combine | Ndamukong Suh Combine Results | NFL Combine Results 2010: Eric Berry Impresses in 40 Times

In the recent NFL Combine Results news this 2010, Eric Berry told media confidently that he is the best and ranked first overall in the entire draft. He really looked fast and fluid running his 40-yard dash with a worth-of-praise official time of 4.47. Now that’s fast!

All the defensive backs are running their 40-yard dashes at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and two of the highest rated players, Florida’s Joe Haden and Tenessee’s Eric Berry, each had an up and a down in their runs.

Berry showed that he has good upper body strength too, managing 19 reps in the bench press and showed smooth hips when changing direction in the field drills.

Standing at an impressive size of 5′11 1/2″ and 211 pounds, Berry has been compared to Ravens All-Pro safety Ed Reed. He also told the media during his interviews that he would rather make a play intercepting a pass rather than making the huge hit.

Haden on the other hand, who is the top cornerback, ran a very disappointing 40-yard dash time with an official 4.57.

Yes, I know. 4.57 is fast indeed. But even though a 4.57 is still considered pretty fast, a cornerback needs to run as close to 4.4 as possible.

And why? Because they need speed at their position to be able to run with wide receivers and recovery speed in the secondary is important as well.

Haden disappointed in his vertical leaping ability, while Berry is proving that he is indeed worthy to be included in the top 10.

Ceremony Marks End of Bittersweet Olympics

(AP) An Olympics that began with the death of a luger ended Sunday with an exuberant celebration of Canada - reflecting a determined comeback by the host country's organizers and athletes.

A festive crowd of 60,000 jammed into BC Place Stadium for the closing ceremony, many of them Canadians abuzz over the overtime victory by their men's hockey team earlier in the day to give the host nation a Winter Olympics record of 14 gold medals.

The gaiety - capped by a boisterous rock concert - contrasted sharply with the moment of silence at the opening ceremony Feb. 12 for Nodar Kumaritashvili, the 21-year-old luger killed in a horrific training-run crash on the sliding track in Whistler just hours before that ceremony.

The speakers of honor on Sunday, chief Vancouver organizer John Furlong and International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge, each paid tribute to the young athlete.

"We are so sorry for your loss," Furlong said, addressing himself to the nation of Georgia. "May the legacy of your favorite son never be forgotten and serve to inspire youth everywhere to be champions in life."

Furlong then shifted to a more upbeat tone.

"I believe Canadians tonight are stronger, more united, more in love with our country and more connected to each other than ever before," he said.

He paid tribute to moguls skier Alexandre Bilodeau, winner of Canada's first gold medal at these games, and said of the final gold, won by the hockey team, "Our last one will be remembered for generations."

Rogge then pronounced the games closed, after describing them as "excellent and very friendly."

Neil Young, the durable Canadian folk-rock star, performed a lyrical version of his "Long May You Run" - and the Olympic flame faded away as he ended.

Canadian officials ensured an extra measure of poignancy at the ceremony by selecting figure skater Joannie Rochette as their flagbearer. Her mother died of a heart attack hours after arriving in Vancouver last weekend, but Rochette chose to carry on and won a bronze medal, inspiring her teammates and fans around the world.

"Yes, it's been a tough week for me," she said before the ceremony. "But I walk tonight into that stadium with a big smile on my face. ... I accomplished my goals, and I want to celebrate with my teammates."

Her entire team was greeted with a mighty roar when they joined the fast-moving, informal parade of athletes into the stadium. Among the cheerleaders was Prime Minster Stephen Harper, wearing a Canada jacket.

The U.S. flagbearer was Bill Demong, a veteran of four Olympics who won a gold and silver medal in Nordic combined.

There were plenty of reasons for Canada and the United States to celebrate after 17 days of competition. The U.S. won 37 medals overall - the most ever for any nation in a Winter Olympics.

Canada, after a slow start, set a Winter Games record with 14 golds and sparked public enthusiasm in Vancouver that veterans of multiple Olympics described as unsurpassed.

The comeback by the Canadian athletes was mirrored by the resilience of the Vancouver Organizing Committee. It struggled with a series of glitches and weather problems early in the games, adjusted as best it could, and reached the finish line winning widespread praise for an exceptional Olympics - albeit one tinged with sadness.

Right from the start of the closing show, there was a spirit of redemption as the producers made up for an opening-ceremony glitch in which one leg of the Olympic cauldron failed to rise from the stadium floor. On Sunday, the recalcitrant leg rose smoothly and former speedskating medalist Catriona LeMay Doan - who missed out on the opening-night flame lighting because of the glitch - got to perform that duty this time.

Later came the traditional handover ceremony, during which the Olympic flag was lowered and presented to the hosts of the next Winter Games in 2014.

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson handed over the five-ringed flag to IOC president Jacques Rogge, who passed it on to Anatoly Pakhomov, the mayor of Sochi, Russia. That was followed by the Russian national anthem and a presentation about Sochi featuring opera, ballet, ice skating and giant glowing spheres called "zorbs."

Other key moments in the closing:

-The awarding of medals for the men's 50-kilometer cross-country ski race, won by Petter Northug of Norway.

-The swearing-in of two new members of the International Olympic Committee chosen by their fellow athletes - U.S. hockey player Angela Ruggiero and British skeleton racer Adam Pengilly.

-The singing of the Olympic anthem by renowned Canadian tenor Ben Heppner.

-A tongue-in-cheek revue of Canadian icons and symbols, featuring singing-and-dancing Mounties, tabletop hockey players, dancing canoes and flying moose and beavers.

-A segment in which Canadian actors - including William Shatner and Michael J. Fox - made fun of national stereotypes.

Fox, who has Parkinson's disease, received a huge ovation.

"I lived in the U.S. for 30 years," Fox said. "But if the U.S. is playing Canada in hockey, I'm sorry, I'm wearing a maple leaf on my sweater."

Olympic Hockey Overtime Rules | Hockey Offsides | Hockey Overtime | Hockey Icing Explained | Hockey Empty Net

Hockey Overtime Rules – Overtime, in ice hockey, is a method of determining the winner and loser of ice hockey matches should a game be tied after regulation. Two main methods include the overtime period (commonly referred to as overtime), and the shootout.

Overtime periods are extra periods beyond the third regulation period during a game, where normal hockey rules apply. Although in the past, full-length overtime periods were played, overtimes today are sudden death, meaning that the game ends immediately when a player scores a goal.

For the 1983–84 season, the NHL introduced a regular season overtime period of five minutes, compared to the twenty minutes of regulation periods. If the five minute overtime period ended with no scoring, the game was a tie (The World Hockey Association had used a 10-minute regular season overtime period, as had the NHL prior to World War II).

In 1987–88 and since 1995, the American Hockey League has awarded teams one point in the standings for an overtime loss (OTL). In 1998, the AHL introduced a rule where teams will play the five minute overtime period with four skaters and a goaltender, rather than at full strength (five skaters), except in two-man advantage situations. In a two-man advantage situation, the team with the advantage will play with five skaters. The rule was popular and adopted by the NHL and ECHL the next season.

Should the overtime period end with neither side scoring, the teams then take part in a “shootout”, which goes to sudden death if tied after the third or fifth round, depending on the league.

Mats Sundin, Sergei Fedorov, Jaromír Jágr and Patrik Eliáš share the record for most regular season overtime goals with 15 each.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, the teams are at full strength (five skaters, barring penalties), there isn’t a shootout, and the overtime period is 20 minutes. Joe Sakic has the record for most career playoff overtime goals with eight. Interestingly, three of the game’s legendary players, Mark Messier (109 playoff goals), Mario Lemieux (77 goals), and Gordie Howe (68 goals) never scored a playoff overtime goal. Overtime periods are played without commercial breaks.

Apolo Ohno dq | Apolo Ohno Ahort Track | Apollo Ohno Disqualified | Where is Apolo Ohno s Mom | Apolo Ohno Twitter | Disqualified in 500, Ohno Wins 8th in Relay

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Over the past two weeks, Apolo Ohno danced with danger, evading crashes, employing strategy and adding two Winter Olympics medals to the most expansive collection in United States history. Sometimes he seemed forever fortunate.

That ended Friday night at Pacific Coliseum with Ohno’s disqualification in short-track speedskating’s 500-meter race. On the final turn, Ohno bumped the Canadian Francois-Louis Tremblay, sending him skidding into the padding. For this, Ohno earned a DQ instead of his eighth Olympic medal.

As Ohno practically sprinted through the mixed zone, he reminded reporters he had “one chance left.” It came in the 5,000-meter relay, a race that Ohno later anchored and helped the United States to bronze.

At the end of his third and most likely final Winter Olympics, Ohno’s tally was complete: one silver and two bronze here, eight medals over all. Afterward, he lingered on the ice, toting an American flag. He hugged his coach and pointed to the stands.

Ohno’s improbable ride, one that started in Salt Lake City in 2002 and continued in Turin four years later, had the full circle ending he had long envisioned, even if the medals were not exactly the color for which he hoped.

“I’m very lucky,” Ohno said. “I’m very blessed.”

In classic fashion, his final individual race was tinged with controversy. In a postrace interview on NBC, Ohno indicated that a Canadian judge had ruled in favor of Canadian skaters (besides Tremblay, Charles Hamelin, who was not involved in the crash, won gold). In later interviews, Ohno said he had been searching for room inside and found none.

“It’s out of my control,” he said.

While the career of America’s most famous short-track speedskater most likely ended Friday, a teammate began a medal collection of her own. At 21, competing in her first Olympics, Katherine Reutter grabbed the silver medal in the 1,000-meter race.

It was the 33rd medal won by the United States at these Olympics, and with medals assured in men’s ice hockey and long-track team pursuit, Reutter’s silver also assured the United States would break its record of medals grabbed at one Winter Olympics. During the medal ceremony, Reutter jumped up and down on the podium.

“I love everyone in the stands, and I love my flag, and I love my country,” Reutter said. “I couldn’t stop screaming.”

Ohno’s probable last hurrah took place in the same city his speedskating career started, not far from his hometown of Seattle. He entered the final two events heavy on the medals: two gold, two silver, three bronze.

Ohno has long defined himself as an Olympian, but instead of medals, he measured his career by moments. Like crawling across the finish line in Salt Lake City, blood dripping from his thigh. Like his last 500-meter race in an Olympics, a delicious gold in Turin, the perfect race.

Yuki Ohno, Apolo’s father, projected serenity in a text message Friday morning. He described the mood in Ohno’s camp as calm and peaceful. Ohno went one step further on his Twitter page.

“It’s time,” he posted. “Heart of a lion. I will give my all — heart, mind & spirit today. This is what it’s about! All the way until the end! No regrets.”

Ohno has not officially announced his retirement from speedskating, but all signs indicate the end. His teammate and fellow relay medalist, Simon Cho, posted on Twitter about Ohno’s “final” practice Thursday. The message mysteriously disappeared. His United States coach, Jae Su Chun, talked earlier about the difficulty the program faces in replacing Ohno.

Even after Turin, Ohno mulled retirement, as he signed with a Hollywood talent agency, made forays into acting and won “Dancing With the Stars.” But it was the lure of the perfect race, the elation and emotion provided by that moment, that brought Ohno back — back to the Olympics and to Vancouver, his career circle nearing its completion.

The final night was classic short track, classic Ohno. He jumped and balanced on one skate to avoid crashing in the quarterfinal and slid past more mayhem in the semifinals.

But in the final, Ohno’s fortunes ended up reversed. Controversy or no controversy, it mattered little. The career of the American with the most Winter Olympics medals had ended, with contention and wreckage and another bronze.

The perfect ending? No, but a fitting one.

Eagles release Brian Westbrook | Westbrook | Michael Westbrook | Eagles Rumors | Mcnabb | Philadelphia Eagles

Brian Westbrook was released Tuesday by the Philadelphia Eagles, ending an often-dynamic eight-year run that was marred by various injuries.

A former All-Pro, the 5-foot-10 Westbrook led the league in yards from scrimmage in 2007 with 2,104. He rushed for 1,333 yards and accounted for 12 touchdowns that season.

But he spent much of last season on the sidelines, missing eight games with a pair of concussions and an ankle injury. Westbrook had only two touchdowns in 2009.

He was due $7.25 million next season.

Eagles Coach Andy Reid said he called Westbrook with the news Tuesday morning. Reid said Westbrook should still have an opportunity to play for another team.

"Brian is one of the greatest Eagles of all time and he is an even better person and leader," Reid said.

No tag for Peppers

Julius Peppers is almost certainly leaving home and about to be the test case for how much NFL teams are willing to spend on an elite player in a season without a salary cap.

Carolina General Manager Marty Hurney announced the Panthers won't place the restrictive franchise tag on the team's career sacks leader for a second consecutive year at a cost of at least $20.1 million.

Peppers, 30, will become an unrestricted free agent. Teams wanting a 6-foot-7 pass rusher with freakish athletic ability and questionable consistency can start the bidding on March 5.

Etc.

San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson pleaded guilty to a DUI charge and was sentenced to four days in jail and five years of probation. Because it was his second DUI conviction, Jackson also will be subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy and probably will face at least a one-game suspension next season. . . . The San Francisco 49ers have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin. The 49ers can match any offer Franklin receives from another team or get two first-round picks as compensation. . . . Former Oakland Raiders assistant Randy Hanson has sued Coach Tom Cable and the team. The suit alleges that Cable committed assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress when he allegedly attacked Hanson in training camp last August. Cable was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing by the Napa County district attorney in October. . . . The Seattle Seahawks signed former USC punter Tom Malone.

Denmark Curling Team | Denmark Women's Curling | Danish Women's Curling Team | Madeleine Dupont | US Women's Curling Team

Denmark Women s Curling Team Beats Team USA at Winter Olympics 2010

The impressive performance of Denmark women’s curling team continued their impressive performance at winter Olympics by beating team USA by 8 – 5. On the other hand the disappointment journey for the U.S. Women’s Olympic Curling team continued and they lost the match in which they easily could have won at several points.

The game was evenly balanced when it came to committing strategy errors and terrible shots, but women’s curling team won because team USA seemed to miss in all clutch opportunity.

US was lagging by 2-0 until the third end, but came back stronger in third to tie the game by gaining 2 points and was leading by 4-2 in the fifth end.

The turning points of the game were the sixth and seventh ends, where in sixth US were leading with a chance to seal the victory U.S. Skip Debbie McCormick opted to set a guard but shot long and left the Danish squad with a chances to draw the game for a point instead of losing three.

Denmark’s Madeleine DuPont, who had missed every draw so far, managed to lay a stone onto the edge of the four foot ring, shrinking the gap to one point.

In the seventh attempt, American, Allison Pottinger missed poorly on a takeout tries. The entire game was a series of missed shots and opportunities for Team US and Denmark women’s curling team, some of the misses were astoundingly bad, and some of the approach calls were impractical to fathom.

Zydrunas | Antawn Jamison | Al Thornton | Sebastian Telfair | Ilgauskas Zydrunas | Acquisition of Jamison Makes Cavs Title Favorites

The Cleveland Cavaliers have become title favorites Wednesday after acquiring two-time All-Star Antawn Jamison for -- potentially -- very little.

The three-team deal sends Jamison and Sebastian Telfair to the Cavaliers, Drew Gooden to the Clippers, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Al Thornton, Brian Skinner and Cleveland's first-round pick to Washington. Note that the Cavs didn't have to surrender young forward J.J. Hickson in the deal.

Now watch for news of an expected buyout by Washington of Ilgauskas, which would enable the 7-foot-3 center to return to Cleveland after 30 days to come off the bench and match up with the Lakers in the NBA Finals.

Jamison was warming up with his Wizards teammates Wednesday before their game in Washington against the Timberwolves when he was pulled off the court and informed of the trade.

Two things stand out about this trade. First was that Cleveland was in the driver's seat -- the Cavs and the Mavericks being the only contenders willing to take on longterm contracts -- and that general manager Danny Ferry executed the turns perfectly. He was able to leverage interest in Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire in order to drive down the price on Jamison, who was viewed by many rivals as the best possible fit for Cleveland.

Second is that this trade, more than anything, is proof that the current collective bargaining agreement is broken and badly in need of overhaul. If the team with the best record can acquire a no-nonsense star like Jamison and then retrieve an asset like Ilgauskas, something is seriously wrong with the system. No one can say there is anything dirty about an Ilgauskas buyout either, because it is in the best interests of the Wizards to pursue such an agreement to limbo themselves under the luxury tax, and Ilgauskas may well decide it is his ambition to return home to Cleveland in order to avoid disrupting his young family. The current CBA has essentially leveraged this deal, with Ferry knowing how to manipulate it in his team's favor.

So now LeBron James can look around at a frontcourt of Shaquille O'Neal, who was an All-Star last year, and Jamison, an All-Star two years ago who is putting up 20.8 points and 8.8 rebounds this season and whose three-point range will space the floor for Shaq and LeBron and whose maturity will only enhance the Cavs' lockerroom. In the backcourt is point guard Mo Williams, an All-Star last year, and coming off the bench may yet be Ilgauskas, a two-time All-Star himself.

No one can say any longer there isn't star power around LeBron. Perhaps this confluence of talent will help influence his decision as a free agent in July?

As for the Wizards, this deal isn't a bad move for them in this oppressive market. They wind up receiving the first-round pick of the Cavs and Al Thornton as a promising young player from the Clippers -- comparable to what Phoenix was proposed by Cleveland for Stoudemire, when the Cavs were said to be offering their No. 1 and Hickson. After they unloaded Caron Butler last week to Dallas, the Wizards were on the path of no return and the departure of the large salary of Jamison, a 33 year old who is owed $28.5 million over the next two full seasons, puts Washington on the fast-track to rebuild their roster for likely new owner Ted Leonsis.

The Clippers gain the expiring $4.5 million salary of Gooden, who -- if he isn't bought out to return to Dallas -- will serve as a short-term frontcourt replacement for the departed Marcus Camby following his trade to Portland.

Lindsey Vonn's Injury Tempers Huge Olympics Expectations | Thomas Vonn | Lindsey Vonn Husband | Lindsey Vonn Thomas Vonn Video | Lindsey Vonn Thomas

Lindsey Vonn, the star of the U.S. ski team, is in crisis again at the Olympics. This time, though, her team within a team, the so-called Vonntourage, is ready to roll.

From the time Vonn suffered an excruciatingly painful deep tissue bruise on her right shin in a slalom training crash Feb. 2 in Austria, her team of physical and emotional supporters worked around the clock to try to salvage medal opportunities for Vonn, who has been marketed for months as a major star of the Vancouver Games.

"It was instant crisis," says Thomas Vonn, her husband, manager and unofficial coach. "When she got hurt, everything changed."

MEDALS PROJECTIONS: Expect the Canadians to reign

Instead of flying back to the United States as scheduled Feb. 4, the Vonntourage remained in Austria — in and around Innsbruck— for three days as Vonn received various types of therapy and attempted to maintain her conditioning.

The Vonns and their staff flew to Salt Lake City on Feb. 7 and then, two days later, to Vancouver, where on Wednesday they revealed the injury, throwing the international news media into high gear.

"We wanted to keep quiet to avoid a firestorm until we knew whether or not there would be a firestorm," Vonn's husband says.

What Team Vonn did and continues to do to prop up Lindsey physically and emotionally is the latest example of the kind of special attention Vonn has received that has taken her from being very good to being the best in the world.

"There isn't any athlete on the World Cup (circuit) that has anything close to what I have," Vonn says.

That might be why on Thursday, Vonn was able to ski for the first time since the crash and, though the women's downhill training was canceled because of snow and fog, she took a successful warm-up run and was thinking she might not have to skip any races. She was scheduled to run all five events.

"I was happy to be back on snow today," Vonn said. "My shin was still very painful, but I feel like the injury is finally progressing. I am always disappointed when a training run is canceled, but in this situation I definitely welcome the extra day to heal."

U.S. skier Stacey Cook crashed before the training run was canceled and was taken by helicopter off the mountain but suffered no serious injuries and is expected to be able to compete.

Weather permitting, Vonn is expected to attempt training runs today and Saturday.

Vonn's first scheduled race is the women's super combined Sunday, though that could be pushed because of expected weather delays. Her second scheduled race is Wednesday's women's downhill, in which she is considered an overwhelming gold medal favorite.

If she can fully recover, Vonn is favored to win two gold medals — downhill and super-G — and possibly add a third medal in super combined, further cementing her status as a skier for the ages.

This didn't really happen for Vonn until the 2007-08 World Cup season, when she went from being the best skier on the U.S. team to having the best team on the U.S. ski team, traveling the World Cup with not just her husband and her ski technician but also a physical trainer and a physiotherapist devoted to her.

Vonn, 25, of Vail, Colo., has become a juggernaut on the World Cup tour, dominating the speed events as she barrels down the world's mountains toward a potential third consecutive World Cup overall title.

George Karl Cancer | Coby Karl | Denver Nuggets Trade Rumors | Marcus Williams | Marcus Camby | Nuggets coach Karl diagnosed with throat cancer

DENVER, Colorado (Reuters) - Denver Nuggets coach George Karl has been diagnosed with throat cancer, the team announced Tuesday.

The 58-year-old, who was treated for prostrate cancer in 2005, coached the West's All-Star team Sunday and has led the Nuggets to the second best record in the Western Conference.

"The support I've received from my family, the Nuggets organization and my friends in the basketball community already has been incredible," Karl told reporters.

The Nuggets said they had known of Karl's condition for weeks and would support the veteran coach during his time away for treatment.

Karl agreed to a contract extension with the team last week that will keep him in Denver through the 2010-2011 campaign.

Romney Assaulted on Flight Leaving Olympics | Mitt Romney | The Former Republican Governor of Massachusetts

Mitt Romney, the former Republican governor of Massachusetts, was physically assaulted Monday by a fellow passenger on a flight from Vancouver, Canada, to Los Angeles.

Romney, a 2008 presidential candidate, asked a passenger who was seated and reclining in front of his wife, Ann, to move his seat upright during take off.

"The passenger became physically violent. Governor Romney did not retaliate, but instead let the airline crew respond to the incident." Said Romney Spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

Romney was not injured, but those familiar with the incident tell Fox News, "there was physical contact with Governor Romney." Ann Romney was not touched in the incident.

The plane returned to the gate and the passenger was arrested by the police.

The Romneys have been in Vancouver since Friday for the Olympic Games.

Mitt Romney was the former president and CEO of the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Romneys were guests of honor at these games.

There is speculation that Romney, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, is preparing for another bid in 2012.
